How to - Espresso Martinis

The cocktail of the moment without a doubt has to be the Espresso Martini, combining everyone’s two favourite guilty pleasures… alcohol and coffee. A sophisticated cocktail, it draws its origins from Soho in London in the 80s, where legend has it a young woman/model/fashionista walked into the bar and asked for something that would wake her up and **** her up!

Despite this eventful beginning, and the fanfare it has since received, the cocktail has to be one of the easiest to make and enjoy from your own home. With only a few ingredients needed, you too can transport yourself to Soho from the comfort of your own living room...break out the fluro I think I can hear Madonna playing 😉

Coffee Espresso Martini

  • 1 x 30ml shot of good quality vodka
  • 1 x 30ml shot of coffee liqueur (we use Kahlua)
  • 1 x 30ml shot of simple syrup (a mixture of sugar and water)
  • 1 x 30ml shot of good quality espresso (we use the Jamaica Blue Signature Blend)
  • 1 x cup of ice

Place all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Put the top half of the shaker on. and give it a good tap to lock it into place. Give it a good shake, we recommend a variation on any of these moves;

Once shaken, make sure to tap the side of the shaker to break the seal and remove the lid. Place the strainer/sieve on top of the lid and pour the contents into a clean martini glass, the sieve is what helps it to get that frothy and creamy texture. If you are feeling fancy, garnish your drink with 3 coffee beans, and there you have it… Bottoms up!
